ASSIGN PASSWORD TO ACCESS SAMBA SHARE

ASSIGN PASSWORD TO ACCESS SAMBA SHARE

Postby fcd47308 » 28 Mar 2022, 11:17

Good morning everyone!

I wanted to have a password when accesing my share (an atatched usb drive) using samba over my network

I followed the guide in the faq section, that is I I nstalled thw authorisation module, assigned a password, rebooterd the player and replaced the following lines in the ORIGINAL settings file as follows

for
security=share
guest account=root
guest only = yes

I put
security=user
guest ok=No
force user=root

I try to access the share from a windows 10 machine on which I installed through additional features support for smb1 and I am getting the message while trying to logon that the network credentials are wrong, that is windows 10 is not accepting root and passwork, complaining that either user or password are wrong
Any suggestions?

(cut) overquoting! Forum rules 4.19!

Thank you very much for replying

You see, I have very poor neighbours (they are anyway poorer than I am....) and I have allowed them access to Internet through my router, since they cannot afford to pay for Internet.

That's whay I asked for password support. since I store also family photos, documents etc on this share. I trust those people, but I believe control is better.

Do you think its possible? If not, then I will simply dettach the usb drive!

yes it is possible, but!
IMHO you should think about DMZ on the router, it's safer than letting neighbors into the local network

Is it possible by just editing the settings file? If yes, can you suggest?
