Thanks for your condolences, Virtual!

I should mention the firmware that I tried, so that no one repeats the same mistake. I tried the firmware for the iogear GWAVR;
http://iogear.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2614

The GWAVR has an odd two part firmware, containing the files install.img and install_sp.img. It overwrote the secure bootloader on the Winstars WS-AV601D1.

I was going to try the iogear GWAVRKIT firmware next;
http://iogear.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2694

It has only a single file. I wouldn't attempt to use either of these firmwares unless you know what you're doing (unlike me).

It overwrote the secure bootloader on the Winstars WS-AV601D1

Show console log of booting

GWAVRKIT is drivers for Windows 32/64 only.

Farvoice, I did show console log of booting; two posts ago.

The file "GWAVRKIT_FW_VER_2.5.17.zip" on the GWAVRKIT page is realtek firmware, regardless of any OS mentions on that page.

Sorry, I saw GWAVRKIT_ver_2.5.25.zip

You may repair the player, if you tell me /sys/realtek_boards/AES_IMG_KEY from working player and if you have original firmware. Fw from iogear will not work - AES keys are different.

I did post AES_IMG_KEY from working player, four posts ago. AES_IMG_KEY from working player is (in hex);

Code: Select all
1A 11 78 99 35 18 19 AE 82 A5 BA 7C BA 94 38 3B

Working player has online update function, but the update url is now 404 - so it doesn't work. But if the update url ever worked, the firmware must exist. I will keep asking manufacturer for the firmware.

Just out of curiosity, how could a player that has corrupted rescue and can only boot into realtek monitor ever be fixed?

Another question; The working WS-AV601D1 doesn't support DTS audio. Is there any way to add DTS audio to a secure boot device like the WS-AV601D1?

it's not valid AES_IMG_KEY :(

DTS audio will be available, if manufacturer pay license and add keys to bluecore.audio. May try to change DSP bins but I don't know they should be encrypted or not. I've never had "black" player :)

How can you tell the AES_IMG_KEY is not valid? It was copied from the working player using cp, exactly as you described. I went and checked it again. What is wrong with it? Should it not be 16 bytes?

Yes, 16 bytes, but it are not valid. I extracted dsp binaries from mtd0 and try to encode it with AES key. bluecore.audio must contain "Audio version", but I do not watch this string.
