Shared folders Windows 7 and security.....not friends??

I want to use shared folders on a windows 7 machine; I know the "hack".
But that is mainly turning down the security in the windows machine, making it vulnerable for the bad guys...
Isn't there any other possibility to let the logon with user/password work with windows7-out-of-the-box ?
