Hi again,

I post this to explain:

The problem with tftp was that the player was not connected to network.

The next problem came with the rescue, that not reconogized my devices. Once other rescue was installed, firmware can be flashed.

Many thanks to FarVoice for support.

Cheers

I have an O!Play with bootcode 17 that I tried to update to bootcode 23 using the telnet method, and it's turned into a brick (I have 2 others that I though I upgraded this way, but perhaps I used a different method). I have found a USB/TTL cable locally that provides 5V VCC, 3.3V TX/RX, and GND (https://solarbotics.com/product/14072/). Will this cable work, and does VCC even need to be connected? Thank you.

Right cable, but you must connect Rx Tx and GDN. If you connect VCC, cable's controller get power from player and you will lost first symbols, when player goes on.

I followed the steps in the first post in this topic, and got as far as the O!Play saying "Preparing for update. It takes a few seconds." It's been sitting there for 10 minutes or so. How long should this step take? On the USB stick, I've got the install.img file from the HDP_R3_FW_121PAL_BOOTCODE_23.zip provided by FarVoice.

You must install firmware after updating bootcode. Read FAQ and inatall recomended firmware and gui.

I've tried the HDP_R3_FW_121PAL_BOOTCODE_23 firmware, and the amp_r13_nogui firmware, but the o!play never gets past the "Preparing for update. It takes a few seconds." screen. Is there another firmware I should be trying? Or another method to try flashing the firmware, other than using install.img on a USB stick plugged in to the O!Play?

I've attached the console log for my latest attempt. There are a number of USB errors, but I know the USB stick works fine, as it worked fine in my PC when copying the install.img file to it.

I was looking at the component labelling on the board, and I noticed that the eSata port was also labelled USB0. I tried that port, and the firmware successfully installed. On my other o!plays, I was sure I used the USB port, but perhaps I was remembering incorrectly. In any case, I'm up and running now!

Сombined USB-eSATA port is connected to the chip directly, unlike to the second port, which is connected through a USB hub. Maybe your USB hub is dead. Is a frequent failure.
