FTP Performance

FTP Performance

Postby hannsheinz » 23 Feb 2012, 16:45

Hi,

I use the AMP (R8) with the pohd7317 skin.

Sadly is the FTP performance very bad.
I try to move files via a FTP connection (Client: FlashFXP) to a on the O!Play connected USB device. The transfer begins with approximately 3,5MB/s but after a few seconds
the speed crash down to 15-20kb/s and remains at this level.

Are there some special configuration at the FTP client necessary, which I'm not aware? Ot at which screw I must turn top get an acceptable speed?
Please advise.

I use an ethernet connection which is pluged at a 8 port 3com gigagbyte switch. The switch is connected to a DSL Modem Wlan/Lan router - a proprietary modell from Alice/O2.
The notebook from which I try to transfer is also direkt connected to the 3com switch via ethernet. (only the switch has a connection to the O2 router).

Hi There,

I've got a little problem with the FTP speed. If I copy anything through a wired network, the speed is around 7500 kbyte/s, but as the transferred data reaches the 20 MB, the speed falls down to 200-900 kbyte/s. No matter that I copy one large file, or a few MP3s. The problem occors when the total transferred data reaches 20Mb. If I disconnect and connect again immediately, I can copy ~20 Mbyte data on full speed again.

I've tried to use filezilla, total commander but both behaves the same. I've tried to use different firmwares, vsFTPd, stupidFTP too. StupidFTP differs just in the begining speed (4500 kbyte/s), but its falls down too.

I've tried to copy onto HDD, and pendrive too. The problem is the same.

My router is a TP-Link WR641G/642G v4 084125BF. The oplay has fix IP. Firewall disabled while testing.

Any answer is appreciated,
Gyuri

@Gyuri
have you changed the ini file in the totalcommander
[General]
UploadBlockSize=46720

another source of error may be the router
TP-Link has an adjustable bandwidth control - this should be turned off

Yes, I've tried changing the ini file of Total Commander, but it hasn't helped. I searched for the "adjustable bandwidth control" in the menu of the router, but i havent find it. I dont think that this problem caused by the router. I can transfer data between computers in normal speed, using the same router.

I'd like to share what I've tried now:
I've tried to copy a file to "\tmp\" directory. After transferring 40 366 080 byte, the transfer stopped with "500 OOPS child died". After this I couldnt reconnect, and couldnt switch off the oplay by the remote. I restarted it by unplugging the power cord. Certainly this test file disappeared from the /tmp/ dir.

I realized, that near 40 Mb free space available in the memory of the device. So I've copied one 15 Mb file into this /tmp/ dir.
After this I've tried to copy one large file into /tmp/usbmounts/sda1/ and the problem occurred earlier then before. I mean the speed fell off earlier.

So I think it could be some kind of buffer problem. Is it possible that the oplay buffers the recieved data from ftp? And not write directly onto the hdd immediately?
