Postby rootfixxxer » 10 Nov 2010, 00:48

I just installed the moServices and looks great. :D
To be perfect just need a Proxy Server, it's possible to install one? And what are the options for proxy servers?

Thanks

Sorry...

I have a computer here at home that acts as Web Proxy, right now i'm using Squid in a Fedora Core distro.
So i was thinking to put a Web Proxy in my O!Play, and leave the computer alone :D

Thanks

poor little creature ... that only he is not stuffed ... Now here is a proxy :)
buy a normal router for $ 30 (for example, DLINK DIR-100 or DIR-300) with NAT and forget about the http proxy

In my case that kind of proxy doesn't work :P
I really need a web proxy to access some websites that are blocked by my school network.

rootfixxxer, you can't ask Farvoice to waste his time making our media player a proxy server, or something else that has nothing to do with playing media.

You are better off shelling out $80 for a slightly more than basic router, such as the nice Asus RT-N16 (yep, Asus!), and install opensouce DD-WRT in place of Asus' firmware. With DD-WRT, this router is a beast!

As DD-WRT provides optware, you could then install squid on the router, but given your... requirements, that is, bypassing the school's proxy/firewall, I'd advise to simply activate the ssh server on DD-WRTand make an ssh tunnel that passes through the school's proxy/firewall, rather than setting up a full web proxy.

Offer yourself a router that supports DD-WRT, install DD-WRT, and you'll get an embedded Linux platform that can do a lot of things (well, it cannot play movies ;-)...
