moServices and Live TV

Postby john3voltas » 29 Oct 2011, 15:27

I've recently moved to another flat and I don't have cable/fiber here.
So I've came across the need for satellite receiver.
In such sense, I started searching and found 3 projects that can help me: xbmc-pvr, tvheadend and vdr.
xbmc-pvr is a well known media player. the difference between the normal xbmc and xbmc-pvr version is that you can watch live tv with it.
For such, it supports plugins for a lot of backend projects out there, such as...vdr and tvheadend ;)
Then, both vdr and tvheadend are systems that control capture cards/tuners (analog, dvb-t, dvb-c and dvb-s/s2) and allow for media players to connect to them (dunno how...). Maybe HTSP? wish I knew...
Now, to the point: can your modded asus FW do live tv when connected to tvheadend/vdr?
If not, is it feasible to add support for it in the future?
Cheers

Just in case you are wondering about it, these are not upnp servers, not that i know of course.
Maybe you can find out more. My knowledge is very limited and i might not understand this fully how they work.
Here's some links
http://linuxtv.org/vdrwiki/index.php/Main_Page
https://www.lonelycoder.com/hts/tvheadend_overview.html

And then there's also freevo, but it has many features that o!play already offers.
http://freevo.sourceforge.net/

All i'd want is for o!play to connect to my backend box. Then that backend box would be running either vdr, tvheadend or freevo-backend, or even Mythtv-backend.
The o!play would always be a simple media player, not a transcoder or descrambler for sat tv ;).
Cheers
