USB NIC

Was wondering if its would be possible to run a usb to ethernet adapter from a usb port, to try and a achieve faster transfers out of the usb 2 interface.
I see some chap has compiled drivers succersfully into the wdtv firmware, although he was doing it becuase his orginal port was broken.

Perhaps the wireless drivers could be exchanged for a wired usb driver, hopefully getting around the xtreamers and other media players 100mb limit?
