I have an HD2 clone with an identical board and configuration, but different firmware and presumably boot loaders. I am having a bit of difficulty getting it to recognise any but a few firmwares. I also do not have access to the original fw so I essentially have a brick. I previously had bootcode 17 - can anyone give me some assistance?

Why did you update bootcode? I not found bootcode for your device :(
It's a brick now. One way - disassemble the unit, find UART connector, plug serial cable, on console reset mtdblock/0 and return clearly dead device to warranty service

hmm. on first link I don't found any pictures with board. It's a topic about HDDs

If you find bootcode for your device, we'll try to back your player. But serial cable is required
