Upgrade bootcode

Re: Upgrade bootcode

I was able to connect my o!plat R1 to an Aten USB to serial. I conected GND to pin 5 TX to pin 2 and RX to pin 3. When I configure putty and start a serial connection and connect the power of the O!play I just see a bunch of characters like: ÖÊRI'ÙjNjz2j~îBFjÖÊZM#$Mó¤2ÒòSó3rä¤ÈÒ2²~¦æ²~ªFzvNj~.B~JB*F.~6BB.~f2~BF~*FRFB"FJvNBrR^2:N:ZÖÊü+˳ä$òÒ2ò$²$ɳÊ
rolling out until it stops.

I double checked the serial port configuration and swaped the RX and TX pins (in that case i get no reply from Putty)

Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong :?:

You have RS232 (+5..15; -5..15 V) signal level cable, but you must have TTL( 0;+5 V) signal level!
Change your cable!

Thank you for the quick reply!
I don't have any other USB to serial converter so I ordered a USB 2.0 to TTL 6PIN Module Serial Converter CP2102 from ebay
http://tinyurl.com/usbtottl

I hope it is able to solve my problem! it should support 3,3 and 5v

Re: Upgrade bootcode // Problem with new-linefeed

Postby naturpur » 04 Jul 2011, 14:16

Hi!

First thank you very much for your help here for those who bricked their players like me! :)

I have the broken Asus HD2 and a USB/Serial Cable connected. I know my connector (rx,tx,gnd) but tried to find the right pins at the box. I used your introduction ... could find the GNX from the box, because I recieved many spaces within seconds. then I tried combinations from my TX+RX with box PINS until I could recieve letters I sent via my TX (trough the box..) .. so I think that 3 PINS must be correct. After reboot I got a correct boot-display with Realtek-prompt... But after every letter I press/send I get of course this letter displayed in hyperterminal, but two new line feeds as well. So I cann't complete any command!

see copy:
Realtek> z
Realtek>
Realtek> r
Realtek>
Realtek> d
Realtek>
(I just pressed "ZRD"!)

What's wrong there? I didn't used the 4th PIN from the box.

Thanks you so much! My player works again!

I had to change the TX with GND-PIN and then was everything fine. And there was no wrong newline-feed after every letter.

Where can I get new modded firmware for the HD2 ?

I use now bootcode 26 with HD2_1.12.06_rev3_1_plus_blue.zip

Thank you kindly for your reply Farvoice in the 'upgrade without cable' thread.

Don't have the confidence to make a cable myself, but have searched and found this cable on ebay:

Would this cable be ok to upgrade bootcode on hd2.

@ak70
Yes. This cable is suitable. But the price to £ 5 a bit too much IMHO :) The normal price of this cable $ 2 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-USB-to-UART ... 460828f5e3 :)

Thank you so much Farvoice and everyone associated to this wonderful site.

Thanks to your step by step guide and the picture of the hd2 from this topic viewtopic.php?p=3868#p3868 my hd2 is no longer a brick. Couldn't get the pl2303hx cable to function properly with win7 64bit, but worked fine in XP 32bit.

Hi there,

Im here as it is my last chance to revive my o!play, after reading the farvoice great tutorials, its been hours, and been wake up overnight and no luck.

A month ago i tried to update my Asus o!play r1 and since i am with bootcode earlier than 17, i got stuck on asus logo.

I ordered from ebay this, a serial ttl adapter:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180836792643? ... 1439.l2649

I tried with windows xp, with windows 7, with 4 computers, and i cant even get a connection, the adapter is recognized, and assigns a port, but when connecting with any program (putty, hyperterminal, realterm etc) nothing happens, no characters on screen just plain blank...

Could it be the adapter? i connected the pins the correctly i guess - RX to RX, tx to tx, 3.3v to 3.3v and gnd to gnd...

Can you give me some tips FarVoice or anyone else ?
