OPlay as Media Renderer

OPlay as Media Renderer

Postby Volker Racho » 29 Jun 2012, 16:02

Hi

Im looking for a programm that allows me to stream musik to the OPlay Air and control this stream from my Laptop or ma Android. I dont want to swich on the TV just to play my musik. So the OPlay needs to act as a (DLNA) Media Renderer in the network.

How can I do that?

Thanks for your help folks

DLNA Render functionality is embedded on FW based on SDK4 ( HD2 or PlayOn!HD). Just use MS Media player 12 or Home Media server and choose Play on...

R1 and R3 are model names.
There is HDP-R1, HDP-R3, HD2, Mini, etc. All Asus media player models.
R1 and R3 are essentially the same unit but the R3 has a multimedia card reader and a WiFi adapter embedded in it.
You can easily run any modded firmware on any unit with the exception of the Mini which seems to be a different hardware (maybe lower specced).
What Farvoice meant is that DLNA comes with the latest modded firmwares.
You can install a newer and modded firmware by searching for AMP r8 (the HD2 skin or the POHD skin).
http://moservices.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1030
Both have the DLNA feature.
Don't forget that you need a proper bootcode in order to install AMP r8.
Search in that thread.
Then you can stream from your laptop with windows media player.
Hope that helps.
Cheers

Thanks a lot,

as I wrote in the other thread i managed to install the AMP r8 on my oplay r3 and it works just fine. for those who wnat to know how:
at first i updated the fw with the HDP_R3_FW_121PAL_BOOTCODE_23 simply by using the standard fw update function of the oplay. then the r8:
copy install.img from amp_r8_hd2.zip to fat32 usb stick -> plug usb stick in oplay -> unplug ac -> push and hold reset button -> plug ac back in -> release reset button. now you see the update screen and the new FW gets installed.

in the end i use the hd2 skin because the r8_pohd had some trubble with the wifi. when ever i unpluged the usb stick the wifi connection broke down. the hd2 version doesnt seam to hafe this problem.

Then now you can proudly change your sig from "ASUS O!Play Air R3 FW 1.21P" to something like "ASUS O!Play AMP r8 HD2" :D

This wifi issue that you're experiencing, I'm quite sure this can be easily solved by the more veterans in here.
It's just a matter of them reading your post.

The POHD firmware requires at least one USB device to be plugged in for the WiFi to work. I believe this is due to the fact that the original Playon hardware doesn't have a built-in WiFi device as the Asus Oplay hardware of the HDP R3 has. So the Asus based firmwares recognize the WiFi without any USB device plugged in, on the other hand the Playon based firmware is waiting for a USB WiFi stick to be plugged and then will subsequentially mount USB and WiFi.

I have routinely connected two USB hard disks via a hub which allow for mounting of the WiFi functions of the POHD firmware anyway. So this shortcoming of the POHD firmware only matters when no USB device is connected at all.

Wow. That one caught me off guard.
OTOH, the R3 also has one USB and one eSATA, right?
Actually it's 1 USB and 1 eSATA but the eSATA is also a USB when connected upside down.
Seems to be this kind of port.
So connect you HDD to the USB and a small Pendisk upside down to the eSATA port.
